Matt Thompson (26) and Hudson VerSteeg (21) combined for 47 points on Thursday night as the Hancock boys’ basketball team defeated Ortonville 79-47. The Owls led 44-24 at the half. They made 28-of-41 (68%) field goal attempts on the night and assisted on 23 made baskets.
Zachary Koehl had a team high 13 rebounds, while Thompson and Chase Evink secured 7 boards each. Koehl led the team with7 assists and Luke Joos added 5. Thompson had 5 steals to lead the Owls.
Hunter Merritt led the Trojans with 10 points and three players, Carter Powell, Own Longnecker and Alex Meyer contributed 8 points apiece. Ortonville shot 45% (13-29) from the field.
Hancock (5-2) has a big challenge ahead on Saturday when they travel to Morris to play the Tigers.
Ortonville (0-10) remained winless on the season. The Trojans will play at Sisseton on Monday night as they play their fourth of six consecutive road contests.
