Owls Start with 19-0 Run in Win Over Underwood

Hancock went on a 19-0 run to start their game against Underwood on Monday night, however, the Rockets played well the rest of the half as the Owls only outscored them by two points to take a 49-28 lead into the locker room.  Hancock’s proficient 3-point shooting (57%) enabled them to put 87 points on the board and take an 87-49 victory to improve their season record to 7-2 with their fourth straight victory.

Matt Thompson scored a game high 35 to lead the Owls. Thompson led the team with 9 rebounds and Luke Joos had a team high 9 assists.  Jackson Koehl contributed 12 points and 8 rebounds.  Joos and Hudson VerSteeg chipped in with 10 points apiece.  The Owls made 33-of-64 (51.5%) field goal attempts and won the rebounding battle 46-14.

Underwood was led by eighth-grader Drew Evavold with 14 points.  Jayden Harig had 11 and freshman Hudson Risbrudt chipped in 7.

“We just couldn’t get any shots to fall, but we kept working on the defensive end,” said Underwood Head Coach Kellen Shebeck.  “I’m very proud of these guys, they continue to compete.”

Underwood (1-9) will play host to Battle Lake in a Little Eight Conference game on Thursday, while Hancock travel to Barrett for a matchup with the West Central Area Knights on Friday.
